Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
